Green aviation

SINTEF, Park Air Systems, Saab, Kongsberg, Thrane&Thrane and the Irish company Airtel have launched a cooperative project to develop products and services aimed at European air traffic control authorities. Major investments in European air traffic control are likely because of plans for a unified European airspace, in which national boundaries will be de-emphasized in favour of supranational control of air traffic.

The “Single European Sky” is intended to ensure that zig-zag routes disappear, safety improves and pollution is lessened. Aage Thunem, vice president of SINTEF ICT, will coordinate the various companies involved. He believes that the new joint project offers Norwegian industry a good opportunity to develop technologies for air traffic management
