Noise plan for Abu Dhabi

Major cities have areas in which noise levels are extremely high, but other districts have a good noise environment. In the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, the rise in the amount of traffic has been formidable in the recent years, with an increase of as much as 100% since 2002.

The authorities want to do something about this problem, and have engaged SINTEF ICT to draw up a master plan to tackle the problem. SINTEF, which was awarded the contract via its collaboration with the Norwegian Institute for Air Research, has already surveyed the current situation.

“We have modelled the two largest cities in the Emirate and are now ready to offer a number of proposals regarding what can be done to reduce noise levels,” says Truls Gjestland.
