Norwegian radiation sensors help find Higgs boson

CERNĀ is known for its subterranean tunnel in which protons circulate in opposite directions reaching velocities close to the speed of light. Four large detectors are located around the ring, including the two primary devices, Atlas and CMS, which discovered the newĀ Higgs particleĀ in July this year. Two of the discs in the innermost layers, close to where the particle collisions occur, are equipped with SINTEF chips. The radiation sensor is an exclusive and sought-after component for industries supplying advanced instruments for materials analysis. The photo shows a disc containing radiation sensors.
