Voice guided

A voice-controlled pocket computer will soon be able to guide tourists around the city of Trondheim. It shows a dynamic snapshot of the city and provides information about hotels, restaurants and attract- ions. The application is not designed for production and sales, however, but is part of an effort to test new technology with an easy interface. It was deve- loped under the auspices of the national language technology research project called Vocals. Part of the logic behind the invention is to enable scientists to see how speech recognition works in an area with a lot of background noise – like a city street. Both NTNU and SINTEF are participating in Vocals.
