New ocean space centre

Research groups at SINTEF, MARINTEK and NTNU want to use the Ocean Space Centre project to establish a modern knowledge centre dedicated to marine technology in Trondheim. The three parties are at the international leading edge in research and development in this field. They see a need for more knowledge of our oceans, and believe that Norway needs to adopt a proactive position if it is to participate in acquiring such knowledge.

The centre is being planned in close collaboration with the Institute of Marine Research and important industrial companies such as Teekay, Statkraft, Statoil, the Ulstein Group, Det Norske Veritas and the Norwegian Shipowners Federation.

A pilot study has already been financed by the Ministry of Trade and Industry, the knowledge sector and industry itself. The report of the pilot study was recently submitted to the Ministry, and further studies will be carried out during the year.
