Assessing Arctic working conditions
This research subject is being monitored by sensors both in and outside his body. The data will provide us with a new understanding of the physical challenges facing industrial workers in the Arctic.
While the subject is asked to complete a series of tasks inside a climate chamber at SINTEF, the researchers have their eyes and sensors fixed with radar precision on what’s going on. The experiment is part of the work looking into the health and the physical challenges faced by miners working in the Arctic. Researchers know from previous studies that cold conditions tire us out more quickly, which increases the risk of accident and injury. Now they aim to find our limits, and what to do to prevent the cold and associated stresses from increasing these risks.
