Supercomputing with a twist
Until now, supercomputing power has been restricted to few applications such as weather forecasting. And it has required massive super- computers. But super-powerful PCs are now being built at NTNU’s High Performance Computing (HPC) lab. These machines can perform complex operations with large amounts of data – nearly a thousand operations simultaneously. The secret is a powerful graphics card, originally developed for computer games. Scientists and students are working to find new applications for this enormous computational capacity.
